White Plains Housing Authority provides housing assistance to low income residents through the management of Low Rent Public Housing. This program is income based and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD.There may be waiting lists for these rentals and at times the lists may close to new applicants based on the size of and length of wait on the lists. If you are in need of housing assistance in the area please contact the Housing Authority directly to obtain more information about eligibility requirements, availability of rentals, the status of any waiting lists and their application procedures.
The apartments are located close to downtown White Plains with access to transportation, shopping, healthcare & entertainment.
Phase I of the redevelopment ended in 2016, with the opening of a $42 million, 10-story building called "The Prelude." The building has 103 affordable apartments. The White Plains Education and Training Center, which offers a variety of classes and vocational training for city residents, occupies the ground floor.
Phase II of the redevelopment ended in the summer of 2022 "The Ovature." The Overture at Brookfield Commons is newly constructed with one, two, three and 4 bedroom rental apartments. The amenities includes a fitness room, playroom, tenant lounge with terrace, laundry rooms on each floor, monitored security system, bike and package rooms. The apartments include a dishwasher & microwave and storage closet.
The White Plains Housing Authority ("WPHA") is excited to announce the appointment of Denise Brooks Jones to the organizations top spot. Denise will serve as the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the WPHA and all of it's affiliated entities.
Denise assumes the position with a track record of over 20 years of executive level public housing industry experience. Prior to receiving the nod for the permanent spot, Denise had successful led the agency's staff in both Assistant and a Deputy Director roles. Denise stepped in as interim ED/CEO to undertake the Agency's major comprehensive revitalization program, completing Phase 2 and initiating the next, phase 3, of a multi phased undertaking to transform the Winbrook campus.
Denise's agenda for the organization includes: creating an efficient organization that's able to build and maintain affordable housing in the future, while most importantly focusing on transparency and partnership with our residents said Denise.
